If you are like me and love anything with potatoes, then you will be obsessed with this recipe.
This dish combines the perfect combination of creamy cheese, savory garlic sauce, and thinly sliced potatoes broiled to perfection.
After introducing this recipe to family during the holidays, these potatoes will definitely be a staple for years to come!
- Difficulty: Easy-Medium
- Prep Time: 20-25 minutes
- Cook Time: 1 hr 20 minutes

Cooking Tools
- Cast Iron Skillet
- Mandoline Slicer
- Cuisinart Small Saucepan
- Cheese Grater
- Aluminum Foil
Ingredients
- 2 tsp Salt and Pepper to taste
- 3 cloves Minced Garlic
- ½-1 tsp Thyme
- 1 ½ cups heavy cream
- 1 tbsp Unsalted Butter
- 5-6 medium white potatoes
- 1 cup Gruyère, grated
- ½ cup Parmesan, grated

Directions
-Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
-Using a Mandoline Slicer, thinly slice potatoes to ⅛ thickness. Set potatoes aside.
-In a small saucepan pour in heavy cream, salt, minced garlic, and pepper to taste.
-Turn stove top to low heat and bring mixture to a simmer for 5 minutes.
-Once the garlic sauce is done simmering, add butter into a cast iron skillet and fully melt on low heat.
-Place the thinly sliced potatoes into a spiral pattern on top of the melted butter and slowly pout the garlic sauce over top of the potatoes.
-Place a piece of tin foil tightly over the cast iron skillet and bake for 1 hr and 15 minutes.
-Remove foil from skillet, cover potatoes with Gruyère, Parmesan cheese, and sprinkle thyme on top of cheese.
-Place the skillet back into the oven and broil on high for 5 minutes or until cheese is bubbling/golden brown on top.
Tips
-I prefer to start by slicing the potatoes as the first step so that you don’t have to pay attention to simmering the garlic sauce while trying to prepare potatoes at the same time. Prepping and chopping first makes the process flow smoothly. If you do not have a Mandoline Slicer, a knife works just as well to cut potatoes into thin slices.
-If you do not have a cast iron skillet, no worries! Any oven safe dish will work as well.
-The type of cheese incorporated into this dish is 100% optional depending on your desired taste. Feel free to customize with your favorite cheese!
Storage
-Store potatoes in the fridge w/ tin foil tightly over the skillet or in an Air-tight Container until ready to reheat and serve.
